Self Sustaining Forest
Planted in July 2022, Ancestral Forest is flourishing as a 1.5-hectare interactive sensory forest. Designed as a multi-sensory experience that bridges art and Nature, it invites visitors to immerse themselves in the sights, sounds, and smells of the natural world, while deepening their understanding of the region’s forest heritage.
Visitors wander through peaceful, meditative areas, art installations, and architectural features, all seamlessly integrated into the landscape. The forest draws inspiration from the nearby Khao Khieo, the last remaining area of primary forest in the district.
As it continues to thrive, Ancestral Forest has become a self-sustaining ecosystem, preserving local biodiversity and strengthening the vital connection between humans and Nature.

Ecosystem Restored
Final report: 19.12.2024
After approximately three years our SUGi Pocket Forests become self-sustaining. They no longer require human maintenance or watering, and can be handed over to Nature for biodiversity and complexity to naturally develop.

Biodiversity
Biodiversity is all the different kinds of life you'll find in one area—the variety of animals, plants, fungi, and even microorganisms like bacteria that make up our natural world. Each of these species and organisms work together in ecosystems, like an intricate web, to maintain balance and support life.

SUGi x Wonderfruit Festival 2023
Working in partnership with Wonderfruit to transform the pocket forest into a vibrant hub, where live music and engaging activities thrive.
Our efforts include crafting designs for scenic forest platforms and tailor-made signage, highlighting plant consciousness. Additionally, we're curating forest experiences that foster connections between people and the native species of our region. As well as planting three new forest islands.

Khao Khieo
Khao Khieo is the last remnant of evergreen primary forest that once blanketed the entire Chonburi province. This biodiversity-rich biome still contains pockets of untouched forest; ranging from the wet meadow land, through to the lowland evergreen forests, and finally, the upland evergreen cloud forests.
The uniqueness of Khao Khieo was finally recognized by the Thai Government in 1974 and the remaining area was protected as a wildlife sanctuary.
