SUGi’s Tour & Taxis Forest is situated in central Brussels, near the vibrant, cultural hub that is the Tour and Taxis complex. The area has a rich industrial history and played an integral part in the economic development of the city over the last 500 years.
The site forms part of a large regeneration project spearheaded by the world-renowned Bureau Bas Smets, and SUGi is thrilled to have had the opportunity to collaborate with them, in conjunction with Nicolas de Brabandère. The development saw a new residential neighborhood in the center of Brussels with 12 hectares of parkland. Our Tour & Taxis Forest is situated within this parkland.

This SUGi Pocket Forest supports biodiversity in a highly urbanized area and creates a corridor where wildlife can thrive. The density of the forest helps to reduce air pollution and allows local residents to breathe cleaner air. It also provides a sheltered, shady space to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature, offering some respite from busy city life.

The general growth of the forest is low, most probably a result of the extremely dry and hot summer in 2022. However, the survival rate is really high! The ground cover is mainly dense grasses which is great for maintaining humidity. As the forest is within a public park, we have noticed the occasional pieces of litter, but are working to prevent this to protect the beauty of the forest.
