On behalf of the community, we have planted a multi-layered, native forest on rural common land in Village Satoli, Uttarakhand, North India.
These common lands are an integral part of rural mountain life and a major source of fuel and fodder for these communities.
By reviving these degraded rural commons, we are able to add real value to the region by securing the basic livelihoods of local people and reviving native biodiversity.

This is an exceptional forest that has been irrigated with natural water sources. The growth of the forest has been on the slower side - but that is not unexpected, given the natural irrigation and that the forest is growing in the midst of an older, natural pine forest.
The veteran pines have been providing fantastic cover to the young forest. Lots of pine cones and pine needles line the floor of the forest, providing natural mulch to the growing plants.

Eleven individuals, six of whom were women, were hired for the preparation and planting phases of this project. Biodiversity is now thriving, and we hope to see it continue to flourish in years to come.
