In a mountain village nestled in the Andes, a Miyawaki Forest is crucial for San Gabriel School.
This once-overlooked institution urgently needed a forest to aid environmental education and shield against extreme weather. The project has transformed conditions, adding beauty and a stimulating environment.
The Miyawaki Forest encourages education, Nature appreciation, and conservation.

“The Native Islands, or Miyawaki Forests, will bring to our school all the knowledge of our native flora and how to become agents of change, regenerators of our forests, including this technique in our school curriculum. We are very excited to join SUGi and the entire rewilding generation.”
Jessica Malleo, Principal, Escuela Fronteriza San Gabriel / San Gabriel Border School
